Rice University Internship Program, The Menil Collection

Available to one undergraduate or graduate student in the Department of Art History at Rice University per academic year (September–May), the program offers the opportunity to work as an intern in the curatorial department at the Menil Collection. During the appointment, the intern gains professional museum experience by assisting the curatorial department in the development of exhibitions, conducting art historical and provenance research on the permanent collection, working with other museum departments, and giving public tours and talks to visitors. Area and field of research are open. The intern will be awarded a stipend of $3,000 for the academic year.

All graduate students and undergraduate students (excluding graduating seniors) of any major are welcome to apply.

Undergraduate students successfully awarded with the Menil internship will be required to enroll in three credits of HART 301 in both the fall and spring semesters during their museum internship. Graduate interns will be required to enroll in three credits of HART 501 in the fall and spring semesters.

To apply: submit 1) A brief (1-2 page) statement expressing the applicant’s willingness to undertake the internship and how the Fellowship would enhance the applicant’s other studies at Rice, and career goals in the arts, 2) a CV, and 3) an unofficial transcript.
